What is Application Whitelisting?
It's antivirus turned on its head. It's looking through the opposite end of the lens. It's the opposite of blacklisting.
Instead of playing the 1980's game "Whack a Mole" where the mole keeps popping up and you're constantly behind trying to bop the little toy on the head - people do odd things for fun - you decide who are the good moles and then open the holes for only those good ones.
Instead of putting US air marshals on every airplane to look for the bad guys who are already on, you secure the gate better and let only the good guys onto the plane.

How do whitelisting co-exists with Windows updates? If I have my machine only allowing certain programs to run, and there is a Windows update I want to apply to my machine, how is that going to happen if the update is not whitelisted?

Thanks,

"Application Whitelisting" is the next generation of Whitelisting. Not only that it is aware of all Microsoft Updates, Hotfixes and Service Packs, but also, once you decide to trust the software published by Microsoft, all Windows updates are automatically approved. There is no further action necessary on the Administrator's behalf. This kind of automation was never before available and is the missing link to make the Whitelisting a truly lasting legacy.
